Overlapping rooms

Post by Tolle87 » 29 May 2014 18:26

I read somewhere that you can overlap rooms in the editor, but I don't want to test such thing before I ask.Can I place two rooms in the same place with same height, but to enter them from different rooms, so that in the game you don't notice it?I know it's possible with TR1 engine, there are overlapping rooms near the end of Tomb of Tihocan, but I don't know if it's possible and safe to do stuff like that in NGLE.

Not sure if it is possible, but I think so.
People have been using overlapping rooms in the past to create a sort of snowy effect with the original TRLE. (overlapping a waterroom which Lara could not get into, with a regular room. The waterspecks in the waterroom will be visible in the dry room, creating the snowy effect)

Btw, what would be the purpose of overlapping the rooms?
Is it something that can not be achieved with another setup?

Anyway, easy enough to test if you ask me.
Simply make sure you have a backup of the level the way it is now, so, in case something does go wrong, you can go back to the working version. :D

Thanks for always being there to help :).The purpose is that I'm running out of space :D
I somehow have a feeling that clicking on "draw doors" could cause a mess...

Running out of room?
You mean on the 2D plane?
Hmmm... your level must have a lot of large rooms then...
(you didn't build any rooms in the lower right-hand corner, did you? Because that corner is buggy ingame.)

You do know you can stack rooms and bring them either down or up, right?
That way you can have a lot more space. :D

I hardly ever use "draw doors" because it often causes a crash for me.
So not sure what it does with overlapping rooms.

I can assure you overlapping rooms won't cause any sort of crashing or such, though it is possible for the room or objects in it to flicker in and out of existence from other rooms, if connections to both rooms can be seen from the same spot.

This can be used to create a few clever features too, like a hallway that turns by 720 degrees before spitting you back into the room you came from.
