Couple questions before I build

Post by JackRaider » 05 Oct 2013 02:32

I have several questions, the first regarding underwater doors & traps. Do all door/ trapdoor objects in TR4 work underwater? Also, do traps work underwater? Such as the diagonal spikes in burial chambers ( can they shoot in/out of holes), the wall blocks trap from Inside the great pyramid, ring blades from guardian of semerket, and swinging blade from Inside Menkaures Pyramid. Just need to know if they work underwater.

My other question refers to the shootable gem/lion statue from TR4s Mastabas level. Is it possible to just use the gem/ ruby object as a pick up and not have the player shoot from lion statue?

Regarding audio, is it possible to have ambient music play through the whole level, but at certain parts have a heartbeat music que that starts/ends at a certain trigger?

And lastly, I'm looking for a large palm tree object and a large waterfall object that isn't diagonal, but goes straight down. Can I find these in tr4 wads?

Also, keep in mind i am using original level editor on mac and not the ngle. thanks

Best advice is always start building the TUT level and use the manual.
At least it gives you a feeling of the editor.
Also try different things.

As for traps underwater, they do work like they work on dry land.
As for doors, only the underwater door does work under water.

There are different TR sites were you can find lots of stuff about how things work that are not specific mentioned in the editor.
So start reading and trying and if you hit a problem you always can ask.

Tutorial Index

OR
Another Tutorial

There must be also info about the sound somewhere in there.

Can't tell you anything about changing the WAD (with that tree as a for instance) as I have no clue how to do that on the MAC.
But this site has loads of objects

TR Search

About a straight waterfall, that is easy to make, just be sure you have the textures and make them scrolling and apply them to a wall that you make transparent. Must be in one of the Tutorials as well.
I hope I got that all straight as I am not much of a builder and it has been a while :D
Oops, I did it again... Image

You asked for the deletion of both your pooksprat (october 3rd) and jackraider (october 4th) accounts.
I saw the emails you send to trl online because I asked about you having been banned.
So I don't get it. :?
Seems to me that you got what you wanted. Adn if it all went wrong anyway, you could always use that Contact Us form at TRF again.

Btw, you should still be able to view those tutorials on TRF, even if your account is not active at the moment. :)

As for the audio related question... I just answered that on Eidos forums. :D
But here it is anyway:

Background audio can be changed and be changed back using the CD triggers.
However, you need to use the tracks that loop automatically when triggered. These are 098.wav and up if I remember correctly.

Can't remember if anything special has to be done with the triggers (it's been ages since I last used the CD-trigger system of the original TRLE) but here's how I used to place the CD triggers for changing audio:

Level starts with the audio specified in the script, for example 108.wav.
At some point I want 110.wav to play in the background.
First I place a trigger for CD 108.wav. Lara activates this trigger first but nothing happens since 108 was already playing.
Right after this 108 trigger I place a CD trigger for 110.wav.
This way 110.wav is activated when Lara goes into the zone where you want 110.wav to play, but when Lara walks back, 108.wav is activated again.
Then I place the same triggers at the end of the zone where 110.wav should play.
Nothing is in contradiction with nature,
only in contradiction with what we know of it.

Thanks for the help titak. and my apologies for any confusion over at the trforums. I found myself going on it too much so I limited myself to this forum so I can focus on my studying at school.

Ah, I see.
No problems then. :D
It kinda sounded like something went wrong because of what you said in your previous post.

Well, sort of. Gerty posted tutorials, one which was linked to trforums. I was not able to access them because trforums brings up ;

You have been banned for the following reason:
Account Disabled By Request

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

I was not aware that requesting to deactivate my accounts would prohibit and ban me from viewing the forums. It's all good though. I have found decent tutorials on TRlE fan sites.

Deactivating your TRF account shouldn't stop you from viewing the forum. Just clear the cookies on your browser, and try again.

okay, thanks that worked! Now I have a couple more questions regarding objects in wads. I need help looking for these in the TR4 wad library. I'm looking for a static dead skeleton, a large palm tree (isn't there one in karnak wad?), and a floorgate that can be triggered by lighting torch stand on fire. Also, regarding the library wad, does it include a ladder, blue pick up gem stones, and gem stone key boxes?

You could open this wad in WADMerger and see if the objects are there. :D
Same for finding other objects in other wads.

I used to do this a lot in the beginning of my levelbuilding career: browsing through wads to see which objects they contained. :D

You won't find a static skeleton in any of the TR4-wads. But look among the animatings. You can find the skeleton of Indiana Jones - with hat and whip - in the wad from Angkor Wat. In some other wad you can find a more anonymous skeleton, but I don't remember which one.

You can find a palm tree in the wads from Playable Tutorial Level and Temple of Karnak.

What do you mean with a floor gate? If it's a trapdoor, there is a floor trapdoor (one Lara usually opens manually) in the wad from The Lost Library. It can be triggered. And to use a torch to make it open, you will have to use a heavy trigger - look that up in the manual.

Yes, wad from The Lost Library contains a blue gem and a puzzle hole to put it in and the puzzle done made to show the finished result. There is also a ladder among the statics.
