one block platform problem

Post by mugs » 01 Feb 2012 18:53

setup: stacked room, one-block platform placed at floor level in the upper room (A), dummy trigger placed in lower room (B) below the platform, platform OCB = 0, codebits = 1-5 on

goal: have Lara step onto the platform in room A. Platform sinks to floor level in room B. Lara steps off and the platform returns to room A.

The OCB/codebit data are taken from Scott's tutorial on one-block platforms.

Trep is not in use.

In this scenario, Lara currently steps onto the platform and falls straight through to the bottom of the lower room. No movement (or support for Lara) from the platform.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

If you're not using TREP, then I guess you're using TRNG to enable the one-block platform?

Try putting it in the lower room. With all the code bits on, it should start in the UP position. I believe you can set the timer value to determine how high the platform goes in clicks, so it will reach the upper room.
Trigger on the same square as the platform should cause it to lower. Antitrigger on surrounding squares will make it raise again.

I have not followed the development of TRNG for a while but the one block platform was not working in the original editor if I remember correctly? Maybe Paolone has "fixed" that in some way?

@ aktrekker - thank you for that info - will give it a try.

@ QR - yes, the platform is included in TRNG now.

well, that was a good try, but it didn't work. Maybe Raymond will stop by and let me know if this can be done and if so how (it is listed in the OCB-Help-TXT which is why I thought it is now do-able).

Have you had a look at Paolone's elevator sample project? that might help you out

yes, indeed I have Peter. The elevator is pretty large so I'm going to approach my problem from another angle. I take it from your reply that one-block platforms have not made it into the list of working objects for TRNG yet. Thanks for your input.

Could you move it to the RAISING_BLOCK slot?

that's an interesting thought, aktrekker, but my level is using both raising block slots and I have no desire to re-work that stuff at this point in the building process. I may try it to use in another level, though....... :D

Just thinking aloud, it might be possible if somewhat complex to use the new collision effects to raise and lower an nvisible bridge flat object placed below the 1 block platform at the same time as the block. Raymond would know more about if this would be possible.

Only just saw this post. So had to go back and consult that tute.
1. To use the One-Block platform SLOT you needed to use TRep to enable that slot as an additional slot. You could also use it by using the Assign Slot script command in TRNG to assign TwoBlockPlatform properties to OneBlock Platform slot.
2. However you can use the Two Block Platform slot to create a a one block platform set-up.
3. You need a trigger 'Dummy for Two Block Platform' in the lower stacked room, OCB = 0, and code bits 1-5 On
4. Unfortunately the platform will only sink down one click. AFAIK, you can only have it sink further with TRep which is what you want to do with your set-up. If anyone knows a way to make the platform sink continuously whilst Lara is on it in TRNG, I'd be pleased to hear it.
