Questions from beginner builder

Post by daffy » 22 Oct 2010 14:11

Hello,

I open a topic because I certainly other issues later, and it may be of interest to other beginners.

In recent days I threw myself into learning the level editor and of course I stuck to some thing (surely simple, but good! :-P )
As my English is sometimes strange to you, I ask my first question in image, how to make a platform ?

PS : For information and for the French, a site very pure good start : http://www.siteduzero.com/tutoriel-3-22 ... aider.html
Thank you for excusing the poverty of my English, sometimes I have me even the trouble to understand me... ! :dunno:

You need to create two rooms, stacked one above the other, in order to make a platform. You would connect the rooms everywhere EXCEPT where you want the platforms to be.

Je veux practiquer par écrire ça en français :) :

On doit creer deux chambres, l'un au-dessus de l'autre, por creer une plate-forme. On les combinait partout SAUF ou on veut avoir les plate-formes.

When Lara does not want to go back up in surface of the water (She appears above level and dives again), from what can it come please ? :)

daffy - check your room connections - the ceiling of your water room versus the floor of the room above it.
Of doggie candle fame!

Hello,

Here is my problem, I would open the door with the 3 blocks to push into position on the stars of the design. I can not ... :annoyed:

Can you tell me:
In which order handling
What triggers use (heavy, key etc.)
Or put the codes OCB

In short, a little procedure! :D

Thank you in advance ! :)

Place a heavy trigger for the door on all of those three star positions. Now notice the buttons labeled 1 - 5 in the trigger window, these are called code bits. By default, the code bits are all switched on (this is for when you only use one trigger). You need to split up the 5 code bits between the triggers such that it requires all three triggers for all the code bits to be on - and when this happens, the door will open.

For example, you could set up the code bits this way (bold means the code bit is on):
Heavy trigger 1: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
Heavy trigger 2: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
Heavy trigger 3: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5

Notice that the only way to have all 5 code bits turned on is by using all three triggers. This way you force the player to activate all three heavy triggers before the door will open.

Thank you Jesse for your answer, I will study it more closely !

Edit :
I did not realize the buttons were enabled by default OCB. :D

Ok it works, 3 blocks to position the door open a lot but I reverse 2 of the stars of the design is still ok.
What would it take for each block can not go on any star, a block = a position ? :)

Hello,

For information and to readers of way, I solved my problem with my 3 blocks that need to push open the door with a definite position.

Click on the door and a box that will block 1: HeavySwitch and bit 1 activated
Click on the door and the box 2 which will block 2: HeavySwitch and bit 2 activated
Click on the door and box 3, which will block 2: HeavySwitch and bits 3 4 5 activated

Set each block by pressing 'o':
Block 1: Bit 1 activated and enter the values 1
Block 2: Bit 2 activated and enter as value 2
Block 3: Bits 3 4 5 activated and enter as value 12

The method of "Jesse" is ok for the 3 blocks in any order and that's what I asked initially.

Note: I found the solution in a tutorial: http://www.trsearch.org/forum

Hello,

Let me introduce my first level, I have not designed as a game but as a practical exercise to learn. So to correct that I will present.
Tell me what you think (good or bad) so I can improve. I used the tut1.wad adding only "Raising_block1" + some modifications of textures.

Reassure you, there is still a small course to do ! :D

Just had a quick run through and found textures you can improve upon.

First screenshot also an invissible door in front of the gate, just rotate the gate.

Some textures are squashed and some need rotating...
Also sometimes it is better to use more clicks on the wall to divide them better (avoiding cracks as well) for texturing.
