Scripts.

Post by José » 19 May 2010 22:59

Hello everybody. :)
I know that actually there are many wads you can download from the web.
The problem is that I don't know how to edit the "english.txt" and "script.txt" files so the dat files can work properly and I can edit the names of the objects, etc. :(
I was searching in the www for any tutorial to do this, but without result.
Some site where I can go to inform myself?
Thanks in advance.

As far as scripts are concerned, I do have an issue.

I'm trying to make a level based on the New City Wad (and I'm thinking about making a level based on the Lost Library Wad). Even though the DAT files are consistent with the new Eidos wads (like the lost library etc.), my script.txt only has the original levels (ie tut1, Catacombs, Coastal Ruins, Cleopatra's Palaces, Temple of Karnak and the City of the Dead).

Is there a way I can get the script.txt text for the Lost Library and New City so that I can add it to script.txt?

Thanks in advance.

The extended script files are included in this download (contains the scripts of Angkor Wat, The Lost Library, Guardian of Semerkhet and New City too).

Also you can decompile (dat->txt) all oldschool script files with trwest.
Won't work with TRNG scripts.

I am not sure if it works with french.dat or spanish.dat for the special characters like é and such.

Thanks for the information, Matie and Snork.

I downloaded the scripts now.

Yeah it is true...now I'm trying to figure out how to create script files successfully with TRNG (I've run into an error that just said it somehow couldn't convert the files) and Windows Vista.

Ok...I'm running into quite an amount of trouble with the scripts. The last time I made levels, I was on XP (in 2006). So it's only now that I'm trying to make levels with Vista, and I feel like trying to create script files has become really complicated.

The TRNG scripter somehow cannot create the DAT files (access denied perhaps?), and I'm confronted with the "access is denied" issue if I try to do it the old fashioned way.

I uninstalled everything for now (it was starting to become a huge mess), and I'm not sure what to do.

I just want to be able to successfully create script files so that I can work on the gameplay etc.

When you reinstall be sure to install in your Documents folder. This should solve the permission problem.
If it still happens make sure the script .dat files are not read-only.
