Brad's stupid questions thread

Post by Skyld » 16 Jul 2009 15:36

Right, I decided to make a thread for my noobish queries as I know I'm always going to have a lot and I don't want to spam the forum with a topic each time.

I'm looking for an object of water dripping down from a ceiling, sort of like this. I'm sure I've seen something similar before but searches for "drip" and "water" on LLB and TRSearch didn't yield any relevant results. Does anyone know where I could find such an object?

In addition to the dripping water, I'm after a classic TR lever switch:

At first I thought these would be easy to find, but searches on TRSearch and LLB for "lever" and "switch" gave me nothing.

Does anyone know where I can download a switch of this kind?

Thirdly, why is it that many custom baddies have difficulty hurting Lara, in the sense that they bash into her a lot but don't do any damage? Now that it's no longer 2004 and we have better tools, can they be fixed? Until now I've tried to avoid the whole object editing business, but I suppose I can't hide forever :(

And finally...

Whenever I try do delete a flipped room, I get this...
Image
...even when all of the items and lights in the room to be deleted have gone. Is it just a bug in NGLE, or should I be worried?

Thanks in advance to anyone patient and kind enough to answer any of these questions :)

1 - No idea where you can find anything even similar to that.

2 - If you have TR2 for the PC use wadmerger to rip it from the great wall level or download the great wall wad from Skribblerz.com and use wadmerger to extract it from that.

3 - That's normal it was a bug in the original editor and has never been fixed.

Thanks, I'll do that :)

So I assume it is safe to go ahead and delete the flipped room? Just making sure :P

Yes providing the room is empty of objects it's safe to delete it.

You may be able to modify a waterfall object to get the desired dripping affect, but it may take some planning to get to look just right

Ack... Well, if nothing else comes up I suppose I can give it a try.

Right, next question: in Strpix, how can you texture polygons which you can't see because other polygons are in the way?

Zoom in until you zoom beyond the mesh that is in the way and can access the mesh you want on the other side.

This dripping cavern water idea seems good, I'll try to make an object :)

You can zoom in Strpix? That explains a lot. Thanks!

lol I didn't know this either, my way around this was to open the object in Autocad and change the layer

You can retexture an object in Autocad? I didn't know that as my computer won't run Stripix because of my stupid graphics card. I would really like it if that program can do the exact same thing. Please tell me if it can and where I can download it.

AutoCAD is not the answer for that problem, sorry :(

You can't actually texture in AutoCAD, but the various textures are interpreted as Layers in autocad, and I can change the layers as long as I know which textures they reprisent.

AutoCAD is a heavy duty and expensive CAD software, so it's not available online without purchase :(
I use it primarily for creating objects (like Meta)

FYI, I created a simple waterfall item to replicate dripping water, similar to my rain effect in Dark Skies 7. It's not perfect, but I think it should work :)

I know nothing about your query I'm afraid but I'll be darned if I don't recognise that switch :D

It's The Great Wall isn't it - after she drops through the grate into the pool and makes the jump across said pool to open the door to the wall by throwing that very switch? I know someone mentioned that level but I am quite impressed to recognise a switch from all the games I have played and just thought I'd share that useless observation with everybody
