2nd Quarter of 2019

Post by Phil » 01 Apr 2019 15:55

Just heard that a few minutes ago, President Trump signed an executive order putting an immediate halt to Brexit. Was quoted as saying: "If King George III could do it, I can do it."

Weather is very strange lately.
One minute I am walking through hail and rain, thunder and lightning in the sky above me.
Ten minutes later I am walking in sunshine and the clouds further down are still dark and still rumbling.

Trees are surrounded by a slight green haze, leaves are starting to show. Yeah for spring. :D

The weather isn't April at all here. We had just one rainy day till now. I think this year there were just three rainy days. :O

Lately I'm watching only horror movies in the theatre. Any recomendations what I shouldn't miss and what I'd rather miss? I've just seen Cat's sematary. Quite a good one, but a different twist as in the book. Us had a very unlogical story, hm, at least a twist at the end was better.

I can hardly wait to visit China this month. Yeah!

Big news! The weather changed at my place. It rains for 3 days already.
Because of the clock change I can't sleep. I hope I'll soon get used to it.

 You are not the only one, can't wait till the decision is made whether they either keep winter or summer time.
As for horror, most of Stephen Kings books/movies I like.
For now I am in withdrawal (if you can call it that) of the Walking Dead series. Have to wait another year for the next episode.

Getting slwoly ready for the hordes of tourists, as Eastern and Kingsday are coming. Not looking forwards.

And since The Walking Dead was mentioned, CW has announced Supernatural will come to an end after its 15th season next year (to finish while it's still on top). Oh nooooo! Anyway, is that realism or pessimism? Still 15 seasons of the best series thus far, all I can say is thank you. :)

This week will be sunny again here. I am counting the days till my depart to China. I can't wait to see the great wall and Xian.
I hope I won't need to use one of the traditional public Chinese toilets. They are very similar to ancient Roman toilets. I don't think I could s.... while the others would watch me... :O I really don't think I could do this... but you never know, I might need to use such a toilet but I'd rather not to... I am really afraid now of the public Chinese toilets. :O I can't think of anything else atm. I mean I also have nightmares when I walk into toilets and there are no doors and people are watchinge and I can't do anything. Now I might finally experience this in reality.

I've used them. :)
They came as something of a culture shock;but,as people always say:
When you've gotta go, you've gotta go.

I found that it wasn't the fact that 'people can see you' which was the problem. It was that they can hear you. Those places echo! :-o

Gives new meaning to the term "rearguard action."

I didn't know that Chinese toilets were like that!
The worst public toilets that I have ever had to use were on Isla Mujeres, on the tip of the island where they have the stature of Ixchel and the crazy modern art sculptures dotting the coastline. The toilet was basically a hole in the floor, and I had to pay to use it because they charged for toilet paper! Would have just held it and suffered until I was back at the hotel but I'd been drinking Coronas all day while sightseeing on a golf cart. To make it worse for my bladder all the shopkeepers wanted to do shots of tequila after making a sale. My husband is a haggler and he does it with gusto and relish. The shopkeepers actually love it, must be a cultural thing. It was his big five-o birthday that day too. He brought this up as a part of the haggle at every shop/tent/stall no matter how much I kicked his ankles, so of course the vendors hauled out the tequila in celebration. Each. And. Every. Time.
This trip was during December so I was getting little kitschy gew-gaws and such for everyone back home. I don't know how many shots of tequila I did that day... The next day my head was hurting as much as my MasterCard credit limit. That was a fun trip, though.
I digress. The shady potties I've seen still have to be preferable to ancient Roman style/Chinese public toilets. Don't know if I could be a public-pooper (Poopus Publicus!). But when you gotta go, you gotta go. That has to be awkward, trying not to make eye contact with anyone else. I wonder if people read their newspapers there? Hmm... Best not to visualize that.
Safe travels in China!
