Written Walkthroughs...Dying Trade?

I know, times change. But can we just stop writing walkthroughs?

i will not vote
but i like the forum and helping people
i know doggett and others do there's video walks in best intentions
but they release them all to early
so the forums die and are more a help in a difficult game with hard jumps and speedruns
i like it as i already are with around 14 days after

I do agree with vimmers that asking for help or helping out in the stuck forum is fun.

As for writing walkthroughs I am bias. I think they still will be needed and I do use them.
The video walks from Doggett are for sure an asset but I rather would see them appear much later, like with the walkthroughs.
Because they are too quick to appear on the net (and knowing myself) I do peek and then later I hate myself :laugh4:
Also a big plus are the savedgames that one can either download or put up if one cannot do a timed run or a difficult run.
The charm in playing for me is to try to get into a builders head and figure out the what and how.

So yes for walkthroughs and yes the video form is welcome but later please.

I agree with Gerty. I never look at walkthroughs all the way through as I am happy getting through a level on my own, but it is nice that they are available just in case I do get stuck. I prefer looking at the stuck threads first, though. :)

I prefer written walkthroughs, since I can just Ctrl + F to the part I am stuck in without the bothersome and possibly spoiler-ish job of dragging the play bar left and right on an youtube video until I spot the part the interests me. However, there are some types of instructions (mostly about specific manoeuvres) that might be confusing on a non-visual format and when I can't figure them I resort to video walkthroughs as a last resort. As Ryan says, I much prefer consulting the "Stuck In" forums before turning to a walkthrough, written or otherwise.

What vimmers says, your video walkies are a very helpfull tool and I am sure loads of people use them (me included every now and then). Only I would wish that they won't be up and running so soon. You are a very quick player :D

I can't vote, sorry. I like them both. But video walkies may be severely annoying or more straight to the point (as I think they ought to be) like Dogget's.

Btw, after reading the thread thus far I must add that I'm personally happy Dogget's quick. It's not as if I follow walkthroughs on first intance but when I'm getting fed up with being stuck there's actually nothing like his videos (video speaking, obviously). They're a huge help if you really must know what's happening somewhere and willing to stop playing if you simply can't find out.
Stuck forums are ok and I wouldn't dream of even hinting at their disappearance but the thing is it's always very easy to get lost in the middle of the maze that they usually become and way too many times you just don't understand what somebody means, plus you have to wait until somebody gives you a satisfactory answer (if any) and pray to God nobody says "forum effect" and leaves it at that. I think the stuck threads have become somewhat better lately though. But I wouldn't describe them as "fun".
Sorry for being the devil's advocate here and no, Dogget, don't feel bad. You've done a great job.

Wasn't meant to criticize anyone, was just to get the general thoughts on the forum if written walks are still desired

Personally, I feel there will always be a need for the stuck threads and written walkthroughs.

Having said that, I have found Mr McDogg's :D video walkies of immense help from time to time, not least for technique on timed runs etc. Despite having played hundreds and hundreds of levels, I can be a bit rubbish with technique so it's really good to see somebody else (who obviously knows what he's doing) and then thinking 'of course, that's a much better way of doing it'. So please, all you brilliant walkthrough providers keep on doing what you do. Perhaps it would be better for the videos to be postponed a little - I only wish I were half as quick a raider. :(

Both are valuable, and I sometimes also watch McDogg's videos simply as entertainment :)
I tend to wait until a written Walkthrough is available before I play a level.
