Support during my first Marathon

Post by MichaelP » 20 Oct 2012 17:55

Some of you may still remember when I finished my first Half Marathon run in Berlin, back in 2006.
Inspired by Buck's passion for running (see his posts earlier this year here at the forum), we wanted to run the Frankfurt Marathon together, but he ended up having a conflicting event and now I am "on my own" - but determined to make it :D

And this is where you all come in...

I will be running with my iPhone and runtatsic App, so not only can you follow my progress online, but you could even cheer me on during the race!

If you are up for that, here's how it works:
1. Go to http://www.runtastic.com
2. Click Login (top right) and logon with user (email) and password that I will provide via PM to you if you want to support me
3. When I run on Sunday, October 28, 2012, as of ca. 10:15 am CET (and for a duration of about 4.5 hours if things go as planned), you should see a "Live" button at the top of the Newsfeed there.
4. Click on it and find Cheering buttons to click on below the map that shows me as a moving dot - when you click there I will be hearing the support via my earphones

Website of the event: http://www.bmw-frankfurt-marathon.com

Thanks for your (mental or active) support on Sunday in a week from now! :D

Good luck Michael! If it was last year I could have cheered you on in person from the sidelines as I was living in Frankfurt back then. Sounds like a great and interesting idea to get support via your earphones, amazing! I would like to send you messages, I haven't run a full marathon yet but hopefully soon, so I know how helpful support can be!

I should love to cheer you on from the sidelines, as it were, so yes, count me in too.

Operating a keyboard is my main exercise these days. :D

Marathon is still going here.
The winner however made it in 2.05.40 h.
Don't expect that from you Michael :D

Had to leave the house, as a drum-band is right in front of my house, supporting every runner with a loud roll of drums. As there are more than 6000 runners, you do the math :-P

Frankfurt has more than 15.000 runners registered, so even more drum rolls in town here next week

My starting number is 12632 by the way - just in case you spot me on some TV clip somewhere *yeah, right* :D

2:05 is a very decent time, but of course Frankfurt hopes to have the world record beaten next week.
Last year Wilson Kipsang missed it by a mere 4 seconds (!!) and this year the current world record holder (Patrick Makau, 2:03.38, Berlin 2011) will run in Frankfurt, so hopes are high...

Funny clip from Amsterdam there - did you notice how the guy on the bike was struggling to keep up with the runners
