Petition against the ACTA threat to internet

Post by Jorge22 » 26 Jan 2012 15:49

Well, here I go again (it's a tough job but somebody's got to do it :D ): SOPA has ben stopped for now but several countries are signing the ACTA in secret. Let's save the internet as a tool fo the people and not for corporations and politicians at their service. Please, do sign:

Hitsumei, in anti-SOPA thread, wrote:I hope people pressure will make the Poland government NOT sign ACTA...
It's already too late. All hope is in parliament now.

I signed. It won't help Poland much, though... so let's care about other countries now. Jeez, it's like fighting a monster with infinite HP. Someone has already compared it to Hydra - "You cut one head off, three other grow".
Hitsumei, in the same post of anti-SOPA thread, wrote:people want to create, even if it means building on other's creations (like Andy Warhol's painting featuring Campbell's Soup cans and Marilyn Monroe pictures).
^One of the strongest points of this debate I've heard so far :2thumbsup:

I also signed it, but the leaders of the country are signing this today (I don't know if it has already happened). I had no idea about ACTA until I saw it mentioned on the forums. There was not a single word of it anywhere, I had to search the internet to get info whether it gets signed here too or not (of course, why wouldn't it get signed here, the coutry is screwed up pretty much anyway). Good thing that people in Poland realized what it means and tried to stop it there. Here people have no idea about it, therefore nothing's happening. This whole SOPA thing was already total crazy, but now this one was being done in secret, wanting to take control over the internet against people's will and they call it democracy and freedom? Truly disgusting.

^ (sr)ACTA

Slovakia didn't sign. I mean ACTA, not the petition. In the worst case, me and Sylwia will move 400 km South, Matie and Roli will move 400 km north, and we'll find some peace. Yeah... But what with the rest of the world?

intellectual Property.. the racket to keep getting paid for the same thing they got well paid for to begin with. lets say...you put a hot water heater into a house, you got well paid for doing it,now you get paid for everyone who uses hot water or do without. laughing and dancing all the way to the bank. How would you like to be paid over and over for the work you did yesterday...

I believe the problem with ACTA and things of the sort isn't really just the copyright protection (still they should take into account how utterly stupid/silly it is to assume that if you don't watch something on Youtube you'll run to the nearest store and buy it) but how twisted it all gets, so that in the end all sorts of censorship may end up being "legally" enhanced.
