Back to Basics 2012: theme voting

Post by Horus » 01 Dec 2011 18:30

After getting lots of helpful feedback in the BtB open discussion thread, let us take the first step towards BtB2012 - the poll to choose a theme for the next Back to Basics challenge! :jump:

The Voting

One vote per person, no matter whether you are potential builder or player.
As the poll doesn't seem to work for many people, please post the name of your preferred theme by posting in this thread. Those who already voted in the poll please just cast your vote again by posting here. I will regularly count and post intermediate results. The poll will be open for about two weeks. Please cast your vote within that time frame.

The Themes

Northern Legends

Dive into the world of Norse and Celtic mythology. As a combination of last year's popular runners-up in the BtB theme voting, this theme combines all the goodness from both Norse and Celtic myths: create levels that take the players into the mythical Norse underworlds of Valhalla, Asgard or Midgard and let Lara explore the uncharted depths and icy settings of the Arctic Sea, Iceland or Greenland; or visit classic cult places full of magic and enchantment like Stonehenge or Avalon in the mystic realm of sagas and fantasy in Brittany, Ireland, Scotland and so on.

Khmer Empire

This theme brings Lara back to her roots - revisit the glorious temple complex of Angkor Wat or get inspired by the mind-blowingly detailed Thailand levels from TR:Underworld. Exotic landscapes full of lush jungles, riverbanks and beaches are waiting to be explored as well as ancient tombs and temples to be discovered.

Sign up for the BtB package crew

So, you're interested in supporting the Back to Basics competition by helping to create the BtB package? You'd like to design textures, objects, new animations, music or sounds for the package? Well, awesome! :D Just leave a comment in this thread (specifying what exactly you can contribute - textures, statics, animations, enemies, music, sound effects...) so we know we can count on you. Work will begin in January 2012 and should not take more than couple of months. So please make sure you have plently of time within that time frame.
(This is NOT a sign-up for the builders' competition - that will start later in 2012.)

Looking forward to another fun and challenging BtB competition for 2012,
Michael & Nadine.

I don't like either that much. Let's say I like Ancient history (Egypt, Greece, Rome....) and then I jump up to, hmm, I enjoyed studying the American history but French and English history (that is when I was at the faculty) meant nothing special to me. The Vikings and the Celts (I must be largely a Celt myself, since they occupied this entire land for long and stayed) are fine and so is the Khmer empire but oh well... I'll get back with some vote later on. Shame that a lot of great ideas were simply discarded...

The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again - Poll doesn't seem to work.

No single vote ever worked for me, this included.

I also vote for Northern Legends. Would be something entirely different in comparison to the last themes.

Same here. "Invalid." So I hereby place my vote for Northern Legends. Anything is better than groping around in jungles with branches in my face.

This was THE FIRST THING I thought when I looked at this pic...
But still, levels can be different to the pic. Wouldn't be a bad theme nonetheless.

True. But I fear that too many builders would be unable to resist the temptation to do just that.

Have this problem since last year. I also wanted to vote for the BtB theme, it didn't work though either.
