Back to Basics 2011 - Steampunk - Registration

Post by MichaelP » 18 Dec 2010 12:07

:toot: :drummer: :toot:
Much anticipated, we are now finally starting the....

...builder registration process for the BtB 2011 Steampunk competition

The registration process will run from now until Jan 31, 2011
The building phase will be Apr 24, 2011 - July 31, 2011
The official release of the levels will be Aug 24, 2011
The players competition will then run through Sep/Oct (1 or 2 months - depening on the amount of submitted levels)

If you would like to join the competition as a builder, you need to do the following:

1 - Register here at the forum prior to December 31 (if not already a member anyway)

2 - Send an email from your own valid email account to me michael@mprager.de as follows:
  • >>> Use the subject: "BtB2011"
    >>> Include a valid postal (!) mailing address (your full name, street, city, country), so we can mail you your prize in case you end up being one of the lucky winners... :D
    >>> Include the following non-disclosure statement in your response (just copy & paste it): "I will not release the BtB package or any component of it to anyone prior to August 2011, when it will anyway become publicly available. This is also applicable in case I choose to drop out of the competition."
Once I have received this information, you will get an email confirmation and eventually access to the BtB 2011 subforum at trle.net where any further details will be posted in due time.
I realize of course that you may not be comfortable sharing your email or postal address with me. I can assure you that the ONLY person who will keep the information will be myself, it will NOT be used for any other purpose than BtB 2011 and it will be deleted in August 2011 when BtB has been completed. If you are still not comfortable sharing it, then you will unfortunately not be able to participate in this year's BtB competition.

Looking forward to a great competition!
HAPPY BUILDING!
Michael.

Could anyone post a showcase or something, because I'd like to see how the BtB 2011 wad/textures look like, before I enter. Last year there was a wallpaper with this kind of information, so why don't you do it this year?

:jump: :muffin:

So building will begin on Feb 1st? What perfect timing! I am just finishing building my first level and hope to release it sometime in January. I definitely want to join BtB2011, but was afraid the building phase would begin before I could finish my current level. Now I don't have to worry. :D

I'll be moving to a new house soon, and I don't know the precise mailing address right now, so I'll send the registration email once I find out. :|

I'm not trying to be picky here, but I intend to release a level(s) before next August. I would like to know if Nadine has considered the possibility that builders may be using the same objects/or textures thus creating a natural conflict with this statement. This query, of course, would be pointless if Nadine has created a totally unique object/texture wad. I just don't want someone being called out for using an object/texture that's part of this "exclusive" wad. If existing objects are being used then perhaps the wording needs to reference new proprietary objects/textures.

My rough guess would be that 95% of the wad and texture set are entirely new (=made by me for BtB Steampunk).

Maybe an important clarification! Please do realize that nothing much will happen before Feb 1, 2011 after your registration. So, the package will not be available before then and other than beginning to work on the general concept ideas for your levels there is not much you can do :D

Also, rather than responding to all individual email registrations, I will regularly be updating the list of builders in the first post of this thread. So, if you thought you registered, but your nick does not show up there within 2-3 days, then I suggest you try emailing me again... (for example, from this thread I have not yet seen emails from Mystery-King, LaraCablara or Mytly...)

@Jawi - I believe Nadine is working on a bit of a teaser of the material as her time permits. We will post it there when available...
