If my memory serves me well (at times it doesn't) Max is an astronomy lover. Hence, that picture has been re-worked and that's how it looks that great.

EDIT: Or maybe that sky is some kind of backdrop?

Oh, I am sure it is real alright.
I think You have to be somewhere more south than my place, and far away from cities, maybe also from coasts ?

I took this pic from a country side in China and far away from the city. The milky way can be seen by the naked eye clearly.
For a bright milky way, it exposure for 1 minutes, so it may not exactly the same to what you see .

Maxchen - that's gorgeous. :2thumbsup:

Lara update: She's still with me, and getting a little restless. I had planned to take her on a trip to a lovely ancient archaeological site earlier this year, but unfortunately the trip got cancelled due to real life issues. :( Now I'm planning another trip in October (to a city this time, but there's still plenty for Lara to see), and I was hoping to take her along. However, if anyone else would like to have her before that, I'd be happy to send her to them. :)

I was right, never said it was a photoshop or anything. a 1 minute exposure does it, not your regular exposure time. Amazing result, that's true.

I wonder where Lara is at... Didn't hear from her in almost a year, or is she lost in transit?

I haven't kidnapped her ... she's just staying with me because nobody else seems to want her. :-P

Seriously, though - if anybody else wants her, please say so, and I'll send Lara to them asap. Lara has seen enough of India now - she's getting bored.

That reminds me - I should post the photos of Lara's recent trip to the city of Hyderabad. :)

As I mentioned above, I was going to post photos of Lara's trip to Hyderabad, but on going through the photos I had previously posted, I realized that I hadn't finished posting all the photos of the previous trip. These photos are really very overdue (oops, my bad  ), so I'll just post them without further ado.

Lara's Indian trip - Part 6: Mandu - Part 2

(This is a continuation of this post. Mandu, as mentioned in that post, is a ruined Medieval city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India.)

This is Jami Masjid, a 15th century mosque in Mandu.
Image

Inside the vestibule of Jami Masjid.
Image

These kind of stone latticework windows are very common in Islamic architecture in India. Lara strikes a pose on the windowsill.
Image

In the courtyard of the mosque.
Image

A colonnade spanning one side of the courtyard.
Image

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that the alcove is supposed to denote the direction of Mecca, that is, the direction Muslims face when praying.
Image

Tomb of Hoshang Shah, a 15th century king.
Image

A colonnade on the edges of the tomb's courtyard.
Image

The front of the tomb.
Image

Inside the tomb.
Image

Lara is not impressed. "I've raided better tombs," she says.
Image

But she does approve of the gorgeous latticework window in the tomb.
Image

This is all that remains of a tower called the 'Tower of Victory'.
Image

Inside the tower ... if it can be called 'inside'.
Image

The ruins of another tomb. Not much for Lara to raid here. (Can you spot her? )
Image

To be continued ...

Lara's Indian trip - Part 7: Indore

Indore is a modern city in Madhya Pradesh. It has a number of interesting temples and palaces, from the days when it used to be the home of kings. Unfortunately, we visited it on a day when a number of the tourist attractions were closed due to a festival, so Lara didn't get to see many of the sights. Here are a few that she did see.

This is Rajwada Palace, an iconic landmark of Indore. Unfortunately it was closed, so all Lara could do was admire it from across the street...
Image

... and peep at its back facade through the back gate.
Image

A tiny temple attached to the Palace was not closed though.
Image

It was really unusual for a temple ... it felt more like a small inn or something. Here's Lara in the central courtyard.
Image

The back garden.
Image

This is Kanch Mandir (Glass Temple). Its interior is completely made up of tiny pieces of coloured glass. It's spectacular ... but unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside, so I can't post anything other than a photo of the exterior. :(
Image

(I did find a couple of images on Google that give some idea what the interior is like: http://www.holidaytravel.co/userfiles/i ... Mandir.jpg and https://nevertiredoftravelling.files.wo ... indore.jpg)

Jain Mandir, another temple. (I forgot Lara in the car, so she does not appear in these shots. )
Image

Beautiful carvings.
Image

More carvings.
Image

A village bazaar that we passed while driving from Indore to Mandu.
Image

A woman selling powdered colours in the bazaar. These are used to draw 'rangoli', a geometric design at the entrance of a house on festive occasions.
Image

That's it for the older trip! Next time, Lara goes to Hyderabad. :)
