Walkthrough Small Talk, thread #2
Re: Walkthrough Small Talk, thread #2
I haven't replayed enough of the old version this week to say that no crashes would occur, but I still think that the crashes of this game being the rationale for deletion of the file and the HOF is a double standard.
Hundreds of earlier and recent customlevels do crash if they used a baboon or such in the level. For example, the Back to Basics Khmer levels all crash as you describe on reloading savegames and the baboon trigger or such has been confirmed to be the cause. I and others could not complete From Cambodia with Love for example. Problems also occur with most jungle type levels. Since TR Expedition is a South America (jungle-type) level, it may have this problem.
However, if that is the basis for dropping this customlevel from trle.net, then it is imperative that ALL of the Back to Basic jungle levels, etc. be dropped too to avoid discrimination and double standards.

Easy, tiger. I’m with you. You’re making valid points, as Phil said above. Even more valid if you phrased them in slightly less rabble-rousing terms, because, you know, no-one’s out to get LaraCablara. I’d say it’s an inconsistency, the ramifications of which were probably not all clear and present the very moment when MP decided to take the original version offline.

After playing the "revamped version" of Tomb Raider Expedition, I've concluded that we're really dealing with two different levels here. I've suggested to Michael that the original version (the only one that has qualified for Hall of Fame honors) be resurrected, and that the "revamped version" be hosted separately, perhaps under a distinctive name. I've posted the updated walk by using the name that shows up in the load screen.
Re: Walkthrough Small Talk, thread #2
I’ve found a solution for the savegame crash in the original Tomb Raider Expedition (should anybody else encounter it, as I gather it is about to be reinstated), inspired by this post by Markus at the Levelbase.
The solution is: If you experienced a crash when loading a savegame, restart the game, choose New Game and create a new savegame. Then close down the game, and start it up again. Your old saves should now be working again. Magic!
(Markus, in the link above, additionally suggests you start by extracting the zip file to a new folder, but this proved to be unnecessary in my case.)

Yeah, now I can remember doing that with one of the BtB's where we had the same issue..
I solved it by just never closing the game all day yesterday

I see. So that’s how you make that extra dough that you send to MP to help keep this site up?

Quantic Island by Greywolf, Ice Palace
From the walkthrough:

From the walkthrough:
Actually, there are some goodies to pick up in that room. Once you've extinguished the wraith, you can go back to that room and shoot the crystal swans to pick up Flares, a Small Medipack, Wideshot Shotgun Ammo, Normal Grenades and a Large Medipack.Jump on the frozen pool and to the other side. Go upstairs and pull a lever a door opens in the first area of the level, get in the next room and pull the second lever. The door opens – head inside for SECRET 6, no goodies await you but a wraith. Run all the way back to one of the pools in the very first part of this level and jump in to extinguish it.

Manarch, eh? Wouldn’t trust that guy as far as I could throw him.
Re: Walkthrough Small Talk, thread #2
I expect it'll be my turn to get picked on next.
