One step run jumps?

Post by drguycrain » 11 Jan 2020 17:52

Sometimes in video walkthroughs I see what appears to be people jumping the full distance of a run jump but only having run for a step or two instead of having to hop back. How are they doing this? Like what control/button combo makes Lara able to do this?

This manoeuvre is quite fiddly at times and might not work every time, but the controls to execute it are as follows: press Walk+Forward, then Jump, and then release Walk, but continue holding Forward.

Also affectionately known as the "walking running jump."

If you want to do some practice, play The Tomb of Thoth by Dreamfall.
Many jumps in this game require this technique.

It also depends - so I think - on one's keyboard settings. Somehow my alt gr and action keys interconnect in a few ways (for instance, if I have a weapon and simply jump it fires) - it was the same with my previous PC and keyboards, I don't know what it's about. So, yes, it's rather fiddly, even without that.

It sounds as though I may not be able to play the said game...

AltGr is a special key, it has more functions. While Alt is Jump only, AltGr is Jump and Action at the same time. This is why I've always used Alt for jumping and never AltGr.

I've never heard of an "AltGr" key. Is this maybe a standard Euro configuration?

So it seems. I just looked.

Initially, the alt gr was part of the UK keyboard. Then it became the international keyboard (non-US).

From what I read, it's used because of special signs such as ^, ~, ´, ` and many possible others - but that's not a fact because all of these signs are on my keyboard without having to use alt gr. On the other hand, if I want to type ¨, @, £, §, {, }, [, ] and €, I have to resort to alt gr. That's it, so what it's used for depends on the languages but that's the general idea.

@Jorge22 I used KeyTweak to make the alt gr key act like the left alt key and I use alt+ctrl for the characters you mention
alt gr = alt+ctrl

Hold down Shift, press Forward and as soon as Lara starts moving, release Shift and press Jump, still holding Forward
