levelinfo screenshots

Post by DJ Full » 20 Nov 2019 17:38

Guys can you do a proper job and not upload squished screenshots?
what kind of new "trend" is this? This is getting really annoying...
I know of several people who know the game doesn't really look like this.
But first-time visitors will watch this unaware at just skip the download.
DON'T KILL YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE THEY ARE EVEN PLAYED. That's all...

I think it was put different mods, so each one uses a different screenshots program may have caused this difference, but it may be the author's own images, because some already send with these previews. :huh2:

it's like shooting yourself in your leg your leg

I really hate to say this, but I agree.
Something about squished screenshots makes the level look... unappetizing?

This is widescreen problem. Old TR's and customs were set to display in a square because such (squares) monitors were in those days. Now, most of us have widescreen monitors, and TR customs also displayed in this format.

Pictures in trle are displayed in old square 640x480 resolution, that's a reason a widescreen screens are "squeezed". That's why when I know I'll be making screens for trle I play in window mode, because then windscreen mode is off. Or I cut a square from a widescreen screen. But many people are not so cared.

Solution? Change the trle display format from 640x480 to widescreen.

Here I show a examples from the same game.

640x480 (window mode, no widescreen, correct square format)

640x360 (fullscreen mode, widescreen, correct wide format)

And the same screens but inversely, incorrect formats

I apologize for the poor english, I hope that something from this is understandable to you.

Yes, Sylwia is right. It's not the builders' fault - they are just sending in their normal widescreen screenshots. But the levelinfo page on trle.net is set to show only the old style square screenshots, so the images get squeezed like this. :(

I agree, it's quite unappetizing. Sometimes I just copy the squeezed screenshots into IrfanView and change them back to widescreen in order to see what the level actually looks like.

Well technically it is my fault - previously when I received screenshots that were not in the required 640x320 ratio, I took the time to cut and size them properly. Nowadays I simply don't take the time and hence it is me producing those "squishy" screens in the end because I am being lazy.

Sylwia is the shining example of always sending me the screenshots happily cut into the right format - if everyone else who is providing screens would do the same, the problem is solved :p

I like when things are tidy ;). I'd love to cut all screens for you, but it's still time consuming because you'll need to send them to me... Or you can just upload custom to trle without putting screenshots on the page, and I will download the level and send you cropped screenshots straight from the builder's folder (if it is included), if not I'll make my own.

I can also make 320x240 miniatures to make it easier for you :)

Sylwia, I will very gladly take you up on that offer :) - I can add screens easily when I have/get them in the right ratio, but in case I don't I will just leave it in your very trusted hands. Thank you so much for offering!!
