@Feder: How about TR4-version of your levels?

Post by scottchu » 11 Feb 2019 16:47

I appreciate your levels. They all look great. However, I'm not used to TR2/3's UI and feel a bit reluctant to play them. How about make TR4-version of your levels? Any possibility?

Hi and sorry to intrude but I'm playing Sabatu's latest now and it's TR1 in every sense except for the fact that the TR4 engine was used on it. That is interesting. On the flip side, if you have, say, a TR3 level built with its original engine it's genuine. Either way you get the same.

Unless you mean fully altering the level...

To be honest I love older TR. And If there will be a possibility to make my last project in TR1 then I would do that:). But I think that TR1 engine would die If I play in there my BIG levels with Big locations :) but I prefer older TR.

It is nice to change things up now and then. And of course, the different engines also have the advantage of providing unique elements to levels that other engines can't do quite as well. So I fully support builders using them, to me it is not much different from a painter using a different brush or canvas for their art.

I personally wouldn't mind either engine being used, especially if Feder keeps bringing them out on a such high level as he does now. The only thing that tends to put me off TR2/TR3 levels is the slightly primitive textures compared to the TRNG stuff, which is a lot more frequent now. Then again, there have been some great looking games that have been made in those engines. :)

Yep, it all depends (it always does). I must say I suffer from TR3 nostalgia, lol. But I'll add most TR3 levels can't even start to grasp the misterious and amazing game's atmosphere. But when they do (seldom) they do carry some sort of different feeling.

Well, there's a place for all, I guess. We all play retro TR anyway, don't we?
