Cakeworld (v 5.0)

Post by DJ Full » 26 Dec 2017 18:13

OK so this is ready but I'm not really sure what do do with it.
I was just to make few fixes but twitch streamers took over.
They gave me so much advice I applied more than 50 changes.
This also means the walkthru will change...

So I don't know if I should reupload or release as a new thing.

If you changed the gameplay and/or the story much it might be a different level altogether.
You also could think about having the original and a revised version of Cakeworld?
Don't know how that goes as this is a first, as you know normally people will give a revised version but that also means the original will be gone.
I have no good advice to give you Maciej, sorry.
Oops, I did it again... Image

If they're that different, I say leave them both as I thought the first version was excellent. That's what I think, anyway...

The new one isn't MUCH different. The intended path and progress is identical.
I just cut off parts which were accessible too early because people wasted time on them.
Those were just two pitchforks, I used to consider not a big trouble and easy to solve.
But then I saw people wasting literal hours wandering them, so I deleted those.

Thank you for the input. I think of releasing as a new thing and deleting the previous one.
I both don't wanna litter the server, and don't wanna waste effort of previous reviewers :(

I will think about this overnight...

:D

Ok. One thing is if you delete your first effort, I'll have a very rare and potentially very valuable relic among my digital belongings!

You can call it something else (how does "Spawn of Cakeworld" sound?) and have the best of both worlds.

I thought about calling it "Cakeworld: Rebaked".
(That's after I discarded "Quest of Cake: Cake Edition".)

Okay so this is entirely fixed, compiled and uploaded.
But my last betatester had a tough day and is sleeping.
He moved his playthrough to tomorrow. Let's just wait... :)

So... are you going to be leaving both versions or just the newest?

Will Gorty be in the Cakeworld mood this time?

Will there only be the finest textures of all and no utterly silly ends of the world, totally unfit for expert reviewers who've never known what humour is except maybe for telling a freaking joke somebody else has imagined?

I indeed fixed some texturing but I mean "fixed texturing" not "altered the looks".
So if there were some trapezoids which simulate flowing dough, I didn't change.
Also, if there's crossword grid mistaken for "missing tile", I didn't change either.

But if this is how players feel, I can understand them and I shouldn't change it.
I have my nitpicks as well, which I almost always downrate games for, like:
missing climax, missing sounds, missing boss fight, missing escape part.
I feel bad about them even if the plot justifies them as logical. Can't help it.
And since I substracted points for that reason, I gotta be fair and let the others.

The level is almost the same. It has the same plot, soundtrack and visual style.
It's just easier, for I put much more focus on main path and none on secrets.
Nothing worse than a player disappointed of finding a secret instead of exit.
I legit thought it was balanced in the 1st build. But twitch makes you verify...
I also legit think one livestream gives more feedback than 4 or 5 reviews...

If you're disappointed in our rating system, I know what would improve it
Binning it completely and only leaving a Like-Dislike option like on youtube.

Well, that's perfectly fine by me. I don't even know why I care at all...

I'm not at all disappointed about the rating system. The rating system is ok and doesn't need continuous changes which usually mean everybody's lost their track.

On the other hand, I insist that maybe there should ideally be two different reviews and ratings: one for reviews that actually reflect how 99% of the players feel and actually serves as a guideline for other players and another one for 'expert' nitpickers, to be read only by other members of the cult.

But that's exactly what I mean. If you have a like-dislike system, nitpicking is less likely to ruin the rating :) Because almost no level deserves a complete dislike :D

That is true.

There's also a like option already in place which is - I think - basically useless.

Unless you mean reviewing and liking/disliking each of the items: gameplay etc.
But there's really nothing wrong in rating things from 0 to 10, anyway.

Two different sets of reviews, says I. One for people to read and another for people to laugh. ;)

I got a report from the last streamer. He only found one bug nobody else reported.
Now applying widescreen to Courel's Sands 2 but when I'm done I'm finalizing this.
I could also think about making the kitchen switch insertable from every side.
This is what confused many people and I knew it will but my logic is just too weak.
Another problem is I hit the limit of script triggers, I used 1000, no new one will work.
So I would have to scrap some script triggers, setup them on the cramped map instead...
This could lead to new errors which would occur from trigger interference. Hassle...

And I know I should be already building for btb :hammer: Again stuck in wrong project :hammer:
Finishing it this week anyway, no matter of what...

Cakeworld Rebake Edition is finished.
I applied over 50 fixes according to tips from twitch streamers.
The game is now easier and friendlier like it was meant to be.
If anyone wants to betatest it, please PM me.
