The Rat City was pretty grey

Thanks Dutchy, that's not it either. -.-

Here's what I remember: It was a big city, but not skyscrapers, rather the size of the map. It's rather old - at least ten, maybe twelve years old, maybe older. It was playable even for me, that means no super hard timed runs; overall dark-grey atmosphere, no colourful areas that I remember at all. I must have liked it a lot, it sparked my love for city levels in general.

I know that's not much to go on. Really, I've given up on finding it now, because even after looking through the entire section manually and downloading anything that had "Dark" or "Twilight" in the name, I still haven't found it; and I'm usually really good at remembering visuals. :dunno:

Lol, if that's not colourful, I don't know what is :D No, it's definitely not the one, but it looks nice, I'll download it and give it a go :=)

Did you try "The Lost Artifact of Heroic Manliness" by Mulf? it is very dark, and the second half of the game involves a middle-eastern type city fortress. The game is quite memorable over the years.

Hahaha what a title! I would have DEFINITELY remembered that! :D But it doesn't ring a bell. For sure, the screenshots look dark... Well I'm gonna download it and try it out.
Maybe I'll have to play every city level in the existence of city levels to find that darn thing...

You sure it was a "City" class and not a "nc" or "Mystery"?
Wait, wait... I might know... Wings of Apocalypse?

I'm rather sure, as that was the level that I played after having failed on a jungle level; in that one I couldn't find anything, and the city level was so tidy it wasn't hard to find things. That's when I started preferring city/base etc style levels. :)
And Wings of Acopalypse looks good - too good. Too new and shiny, if you know what I mean :)

It all depends on what jungle level you play. I bet if you began with Jungle Fever you would love jungle levels. First try is crucial so it's sometimes worth to make a "second first try" of a class.

Serpent City by Beck?

Memory is a tricky thing, and perhaps your computer monitor was darker than normal at the time. In any case, did you check out "Jeruslaem Project" by Clara, Masha and Sponge, or "The Last Crusade" by Piega. Also, any of the levels by Horus (e.g. Corsica, Neon God, Reign of Chaos-Cordoba) or Illyaine (e.g. Nix Divinus, Black Villa, Complex Simplicity-Fortress of Fear). The latter builders were dropped by trle.net, but may still be available at Obig's site.

Do you remember how long ago you played that game? We could just exclude every later release.
