Mordyga - CaC - The Hike - Savegame crashes

Post by manarch2 » 07 Jan 2017 19:18

Anytime when I reload in this game (except once!?) it crashes and thus I can't seriously progress in this level. Tried using different dll files, different exe files, compatibility mode... all in vain. Any ideas?

Manarch, your crash report says that levels were created with a different tomb next generation dll than the one the engine finds in the same folder, probably because you changed it in one of your attempt.
Problem is, according the report, levels (that is, tr4 files inside the data folder) were created with 1.3.0.0 version of the dll, which is a no-more compatible version with previous dll's you find in older levels. So, your crash report is even faked by this and not reliable. Most of all, game is taken to crash for said uncompatibility. And if you saved with a different dll than the one provided in this game (a previous uncompatible version, I suppose), you added further uncompatibility.
Try restoring the original files you had in the download, try using the last savegame you surely have created with "original" files. In a case like this, it could be safe just to move into another room, play a bit, let the game "forget" some gameplay tasks, and try to re-save (in a different slot, just to be sure). In case of other crashes in this "original" setting of the game, post again your new crash report and we'll see what we can learn from it :)

This game repeatedly crashes on trying to reload. In fact it seems to crash every 5 attempts or so, almost as if it was intentionally designed that way. Bizarre! (I played it last month despite the worst lighting of any Tomb Raider game ever in 20 years!!!!!---it is impossible to fix the lighting with the monitor!)

I complained about this last month and Mordyga simply attacked me back as if players despise builders. In case you didn't know, Mordyga admitted in multiple forums that he thought his level was perfect and he did NOT correct his level based on negative beta tester responses.

I guess the remedy is for players not to play such a level. After that, the author may or may not change his attitude. And the world will continue to turn.

Thanks for your help. Even with a fresh download and progressing into the room with the waterwheel without reloading it sadly doesn't work. The crash report is exactly the same as the very first time I started this game.

I noticed some other levels of the CaC competition - Catacomb*, Temple of Isis, which crashed after some reloads (but not all - just like every 5th try as you say). Thus perhaps it's not a single builder's "fault". In all honesty since no other people seemed to have those problems I thought it must've something to do with my computer but now...? Why those problems appear so often in this competition on my end is really a mystery.

* I checked the crash report of this level and it gave me the same error with a different dll used, only that the dll version of the game was 1.2.2.6 and the dll used 1.2.2.7 - this way it only crashed one out of five times roughly.
