BtB 2020 - A Matter of Life and Death

Post by Nina Croft » 16 Jun 2020 12:07

So, I'm on the second level, stuck hopelessly. I've used all three turn switches and the pulley, to finally open a trapdoor with a mummy and shotgun... I have no idea how to proceed from here...

Also, could a kind soul tell me how to get a Buddha from the roof on the left-hand side near the entrance? I can see it, but I have no idea how to get there... This would me my third secret, btw.

In the room with the gong stick surrounded by spikes there's an opening leading outside...

On the backside of a small pillar in a niche there's a switch and a hole in the ceiling. Shoot 4 vases to open the door to get access to that niche.
Climb through the hole to get a Dagger (I think) (???)
Back down, pull the timed switch and quickly run to the front of the dragon to activate a crowbar switch before the time expires.
Then a bright light will appear on the chest of the dragon.
Quickly jump there and use the dagger where the light is.
If you are not so fast, you'll need to start again with the timed switch and the crowbar switch.

I have reached the dragon area, but I only found 5 of the 6 secrets up to this time. These 5 secrets were all easy to find because they were clearly visible to Lara's eye from a distance (they were not hidden in boxes, crevices, etc. that could not be seen from some angle without the telescope). The sixth secret is a complete mystery.

There are at least 3 Buddha statuettes in the first level,
at least 1 in the second level, and
at least 1 in the third level.
Again, all of these known 5 are clearly visible, but not necessarily easy to acquire.

How many secrets are there actually in each of the 3 levels in this game?

There are:
- 3 secrets in the first level (plus an out of the ordinary hidden bonus which doesn't count and hasn't been discovered thus far)
- 2 secrets in the second level
- 1 secret in the third level"

Thanks Gerty,
I knew the other secret had to be earlier, and it is not easy to find in the second level because I tried again before your answer.

I assume that you and Dutchy also don't know about the mysterious hidden bonus in the first level. How would one know if they did get it (whatever it is)?

Stuck on the third level, right near the beginning. Both of the paths I can follow from the gong lead me nowhere apparently. I found the secret by accident, and also stumbled upon a closed door which requires a key I don't have but I haven't spotted it anywhere. Any pointers?

EDIT/ Finished now. The frozen spirit near the meditating monk must be shot.

I am having technical problems getting started with A Matter Of Life And Death.

When I try to get Lara to move there is a delay before the action is seen, including just trying to access the inventory. After a couple more tries Lara just steps round in circles on the spot, and it all becomes quickly unworkable.

The only time I’ve ever seen anything like this was when an old savegame was used on an updated but incompatible TR4. I’ve tried saving - and then loading from that save, but the problem persists. This is the first level to ever fail to run properly despite actually loading.

I’m playing on Windows XP - is there a known issue with this platform?

Any thoughts
If anyone has a savegame from early on, but maybe not the opening room itself I could test that.

Thanks

(I’ve downloaded this on three separate occasions (on different days) so I know it’s not a corrupted download issue.)
