I think it raises a block so you can get across the gap in the room just before the one you're in now.

If I'm wrong, my apologies 'cos I have slept since then. :D

There's nothing you can reach in those 8 seconds as far as l can tell...But we'll keep looking

Try looking a little closer in the next room if you haven't got it yet.
There's a raised tile that is triggered in the other room by the tile. You got a few seconds to reach it before it lowers again.

For the walkthrough - what is the reward for finding all three secrets? I found them, but one of them on second replay, I don't want to play the whole level again.

After getting the Green Maltese Cross I'm stuck. The only way out that I can see is through the hole in the floor, but the pool is still frozen so just dropping down is fatal. I have tried unsuccessfully to grab the rope or the higher area below.

That's the only way out, but I can't understand why the water is still frozen, did the fire wraith come out and start chasing the ice one and let Lara, on the good way when you're chasing by the ice wraith, you have to grab the rope and activate the lever to trigger the fire wraith and defrost the water. did you do like that ?

No I didn't touch the rope. I have a savegame that I can go back to. Thank you for your prompt reply.

After the two wraiths were released, I'm in a room with a closed door at the bottom of a pit.
I've reached the other side and there's a jumpswitch at the top of an opening with a ramp and a boulder at the top.
I've used the jumpswitch but it didn't trigger the boulder...
Is it a bug?
If it's so, I'm forced to abandone the game. :(

According to the walkthrough, and from my own experience, using the jumpswitch indeed releases the boulder. I can only echo vimmers' suggestion that you try again from an earlier savegame.
