Re: Ni Hao Shiyue / Hello October!

Good afternoon everyone.

I managed to finish an assignment for watershed. I hope I did all right on the Japanese midterm, even though the 2-hour exam was really intense, and my hand ended up hurting after writing so much.

Re: 2012 - doomday

@Anders It's really awesome that you studied 3 years of environmental science. :) Even if it's been a while, the information you learned is still very relevant. I know who you're talking about: Bjørn Lomborg is a pseudoscientist. He was actually mentioned in one of my classes that was devoted entire...

Re: 2012 - doomday

@Anders I see. It's cool that you took an environmental science class. I have met some environmental science majors in my watershed class. :) I'm a geology major. So I do have some environmental background (when I presented my proposal for my senior thesis project on sulfate in throughfall and preci...

Re: 2012 - doomday

The 2012 stuff is nonsense. According to NOVA, the Earth, the Sun and the Moon align on December 21st every year. It's not like 2012 will be an exception. I don't think the world will end until tectonic activity ceases (in millions of years?) because without volcanic gases, it is not possible to rep...

Re: Ni Hao Shiyue / Hello October!

Good morning everyone. Happy 60th anniversary to China then. :) @Val I can't wait to see the wedding pictures. I've been quite stressed out, depressed and feeling powerless lately for various reasons. But karate helped me evacuate the nervous energy I had yesterday. As for last Saturday's field trip...

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

@Pat I admit that lately I was concerned about the storm (giant floods) in Atlanta these days given that it was mentioned in my watershed class on Tuesday (the water watch section of the USGS website is interesting...I have another problem set to do). I hope the Australian members of the community a...

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

Thanks Pat, Bene and Depawindu. Thursday was a great day, especially since I may soon have a more feasible senior thesis project in my hands (measuring sulfate in throughfall in contrast to precipitation). A sudden burst of energy came on Thursday. So something is telling me that my 21st year will b...

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

I really love my watershed class. I'm learning about how the leaves in the trees intercept precipitation.

I have an idea for a research project for that class... :D

I can't believe I'm finally going to be a year older.

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

Glad to hear that the cipralex helps, oxy. @oxy, Bene and Pat I'm glad to hear that you're all having a nice weekend. I started taking up karate again in July to strengthen my muscles for next year's geology field class. It has also been quite a good antidepressant and destressor because I would fee...

Re: Favorite Poems, Books or Authors

I agree with you, Jorge.

When one translates a poem, it's particularly hard to preserve the structure of it, especially if there are alliterations or double-meanings.

I admit that I haven't written any poems in a while in French. I wonder if some landscape or hobby can inspire me.

Re: Favorite Poems, Books or Authors

@Jorge I wish I knew Portuguese, but the pictures already give me an impression of the elegance of your poems in your blog. :) As for me, well, I like books written by Paul Auster, James Loewen, James Carroll, Jared Diamond, Kevin Philips, Luis Sepulveda, Voltaire and Stephenie Meyer. I wish I had m...

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

In 2001, I think I lost my childhood (or perhaps earlier). @Bene Yes, I enjoyed my trip to Japan in 2001-2002. It was quite a learning experience for a teenager. :) My trips to the Western part of the United States (New Mexico in 2005 and South Dakota/Wyoming/Montana last summer) have also been part...

Re: Bonjour Septembre / Hello September

The second half of 2001 was rough for me. I was in Japan at the time, but the effects were still felt. I'm really enjoying my classes (today I learned about storms and droughts in watershed class), but they are very demanding, especially my senior thesis project (especially when it comes to a topic ...
